St Bartholomew’s Celebrating 125 Years of Faith
After a years’ worth of planning St Bartholomew’s 125th anniversary celebration, Saturday, November 6th arrived with cold wet windy weather. As Band Together took to the stage the rain stopped. Even though it was a very cold day the celebration brought us all together in a renewed relationship with the City of High Springs and the community. A very special thank you to High Springs CRA Coordinator, David Sutton and the High Springs City Manager Ashley Stathatos along with High Springs Police Chief Antoine Sheppard for their enthusiasm and support for our 125th celebration event. Without all of the St. Barter’s, this celebration event would not have happened. A BIG THANK YOU too all.
The University of Florida Clinical Research Vehicle was on hand for wellness checks and vaccinations.
The High Springs Lions Club sold out of chicken BBQ dinners early. Mr. P’s BBQ sold out of pork BBQ and had two hotdogs left that he gave away.
Ben Hill, retired CBS radio, was our MC who made fantastic at introductions. Band Together opened the event with two heartfelt spiritual songs. With Fr. Lance unable to attend, Fr. Ladd Harris gave the invocation. David Sutton gave a speech on the early history of High Springs. After a song from Band Together, Ashley Stathatos followed with a speech on High Springs today.
When The Alpine Rose Band cancelled, Cap Smith & The Hogtown Slayers (classic rock and blues) came to the rescue thanks to Peggy Addington. They arrived at 8am and didn’t leave till closing. They helped setup their sound equipment for our use throughout the day. CanopyRoad band (bluegrass) entertained for an extra hour.
Cliff Dorsey closed out the entertainment with some fabulous country music. The entire police force showed up to enjoy some fantastic entertainment and good food.
To quote Ray Carson from news article in Alachua Today newspaper. “While the inclement weather did not cooperate, the St. Bartholomew’s congregation was determined to honor the 125-year history of the church come rain or shine, reminiscent of events years ago, reminding the community that conviction, determination and faith can overcame adversity.”
